About Me
My name is John Malsom I am 81years old. I served in the Royal air Force from 1948 t0 1951 nationl service extended, then from 1959 to 1971. I was stationed at R.A.F Greatworth in charge of security as a R.A.F. Police corporal from 1963 to 1966 I did Two 3month stints away during this time one in 1966 during the troubles in the Malay Peninsular and to Saudi Arabia in 1966 also during the troubles there.I was eventually posted to Cyprus in 1966 arriving back in the U.K in 1969 being posted to R.A.F Uphaven.Discharged 17/6/1971 and emigrating to Australia same month same year. Summing up Joined R.A.F.national service 1948 as R.A.F Police dog handler extending service one year discharged 1951. Reenlisted 1959 Pershore Police School for retraining,Posted RAF Driffield 1959 to 1961. Posted RAF Wildenwrath Germany 1961 to 1963. RAF Greatwoth 1963 to 1966 RAF Episkopi Cyprus 1966 to 1969 RAF Uphaven 1969 to 1971. Reference David Malsom he is my oldest son and very interested in my military career as he and the rest of my family were with me for the greater part of it. I did various attachments during my service one of them was escorting General Sir Gerald Fitzpatrick to Italy visiting Rome ,Naples,Venice and Verona .Escorting Sir Douglas Hume to Brussels Besides my escapades in Saudi Arabia and The Malay Peninsular Digressing back to 1949 I was also the first RAF Police dog handler to march his dog into the Royal Show this being the first time RAF Police Dogs had been introduced to the show. And very nice to have you on our site John, your stay at Greatworth started as mine ended it seems and you went out to Malaysia around the time I was repatriated. no-one could say we didn't `get some in' , right? You totaled close on 15 years there, while I did nine. Good on you mate. Feel free to blog and post memories, photos or contact people you know here.
