BEER-CAMRA & Hookies!

Posted by M Hall on December 29, 2013 at 10:10 AM

`RAFA Brackley' (member), Mick, has emailed me to say, that "THE INN" has a fresh landlord and is now open again. Mick goes on to say, that the new landlord is a member of `CAMRA' and that should in itself promise a good beer. We have yet to learn if there is food on offer, we'll no doubt find out in the near future. There is not a great variety of venues in the area and they do need to be close by the camp, as a one day event we don't need to waste time moving between venue and camp. Culworth is fine, but it is as far away as you can be and still be practical. I won't labour the point, so please, your views/ideas.

5th GREATWORTH REUNION . 2nd Wednesday of August 2014, that's the 13th on my calender. I'm for The Inn as venue, I'll PM everyone as soon as I've spoken to The Inn. Pleas keep comments and suggestions on here rather than emails/PM's, they're spotted quicker? and counting is easier too.
We'll obviously be going, so that's two for openers, sounds like Arthur is up for it too, so that's three, anyone else?

Hi Sandra, thanks for this, Normal opening 11.30 for Wednesdays, Hookies AND Real Ale, plus food. Can we start some feedback on this from all who are interested please? We now have a real choice between venues. Last Year we went to the Red Lion in Culworth, my tuppence worth on this is that it was hospitable, food was good, parking was good and they accommodated our reunion very well, BUT it was quite far from the camp, the visiting of which seems to have become an established feature of our reunions (and why not? I ask.). I am reluctant to make a decision on this without some indication from everyone who wishes to attend the reunion. Sandra has kindly provided information for you to consider and I might point out, is the only Pub to step forward with offers to accommodate our reunion.
Hi people. Just a quick post to say I joined the site yesterday 'on behalf' of The Inn. My son Dominic Capella and I (Sandra Turner) took over at The Inn on the 26th of November 2013. It is still a Hook Norton pub and we got Cask Marque status from CAMRA shortly afterwards. Opening hours at present are 11.30am - Close Tuesday to Saturday, 12.00 - close on Sunday, we are closed all day on Monday.
We are in the process of sorting a website that will have full details of our ales and example menus.
The pub is run as a family business and is family friendly, with the emphasis on a welcoming atmosphere, high quality traditional food at sensible prices, and well kept beer / wine.
We would be delighted if any of you have any old photos showing the pub or village from 'back in the day' that we could 'borrow' for inclusion on the web site and or to display in the pub itself. We love the sense of history that the pub and village exude, and would like to capture some of it in photo form. We would be more than happy to restore (if necessary and at our expense) copy, and return any pictures kindly made available to us.
Phone number for the pub is 01295 710976
Look forward to hearing from / seeing you soon. (I / we will update our profile on your site as soon as we get some more time)
Regards Sandra Turner

Les Gee tells us Paul, that The Inn has a menu. We don't yet have details on what food is served. Yes The Inn is the most convenient venue for meeting up on reunion, we'll look to getting some feedback and opinions from everyone and I'll see if I can get more details from the new owners, I hope it's the same phone number?

Hi Martin
Although I shall not be able to attend the next re-union, I am very pleased to hear that "Hookies" is open once again. It seems daft to have to meet anywhere else. Let's hope that they will do food in time for your next get together !
I hope it goes well for all of you that are able to attend. Have a great re-union day !
Best wishes
Paul

So far only Mick has come in with any comment? With issues such as extinct pubs in this country, I'd have thought this would provoke a more lively debate?

Many thanks Mick.
