This year's reunion will be the sixth, again it is proposed to be the second wednesday in August at The Inn, Greatworth. June and I hope to be there this year, we missed last year, so cross fingers we'll be there this year. The Inn has membership of the site, so any queries about food etc can be pointed at them from here or on the phone. Comments as to who's coming or not can be made in the usual way in here. The more to be said the better to stirr up everyones interest in the event.

Hi, I appreciate it's late in the day so to speak, but does anyone have any idea how many members are looking to attend the reunion tomorrow,  and what time you are loking to arrive at The Inn.

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow

Thanks and Regards

The 5th RAF Greatworth Reunion

5th GREATWORTH REUNION . 2nd Wednesday of August 2014, that's the 13th on my calender. I'm for The Inn as venue, I'll PM everyone as soon as I've spoken to The Inn. Pleas keep comments and suggestions on here rather than emails/PM's, they're spotted quicker? and counting is easier too.

We'll obviously be going, so that's two for openers, sounds like Arthur is up for it too, so that's three, anyone else?

August 14th 2013 Fourth Reunion

Posted by M Hall on August 15, 2013 at 4:25 PM Comments comments (6)

Dispite all the messing around finding a different venue, the reunion was still a very enjoyable event. The Red Lion supplied a splendid lunch, served in a great atmosphere, in a fine old English pub. Those of us who were early enough, had a grand beer garden to wait in, the car parking was very adequate and indicated just how popular The Red Lion is, by being near full by midday (Wednesday, Midweek?)!! The visit to The Camp of one time RAF Greatworth is a short drive to the south over a straight forward route. We didn't see so much of it this year as I hadn't done very much to organise the camp visit this year, but those nice camper folk made us very welcome indeed.

I have posted some photos of this years visit and have also included some of `the cabin' and the remains of the original nissen hut accomodation site, which this can now be definately taken to be. All that is missing is the accurate location of the CO's house that was contempory to it.

The Inn at Greatworth

An email to Hook Norton's wasn't very productive, just a vague invite to `re-man'? It is possible, I supose, to read into that, that The Inn will re-open as soon as another licencee is found. It would be a shame if The Inn followed the fate of The Marston Inn at Marston St Lawrence which closed down last November. But consideringt the rate at which we are loosing our public houses through-out the country it isn't any surprise when we loose one we use. In my village alone we have lost three out of eight pubs, yes it's a large village and some were inns in the old coaching days of the `Bath Road/London Raod. Back on track, The Inn at Greatworth, if it did close, might cause some bother to our current format of re-unions, so some discussion should be indulged in at this time so as to prepare ourselves for change, if it comes?

Greatworth's 3rd reunion

Posted by M Hall on April 3, 2012 at 5:55 AM Comments comments (5)

August is upon us and the reunion but a week away, this year has zipped along so fast, too fast really, but we got it together in time, just, despite the years distractions, weather and etc. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone who comes and to looking around the old place again. There's a new kid on the block too, but you'll find out about that on the day.

Reunion 2012 date proposed as the 8th August?

Posted by M Hall on January 3, 2012 at 4:40 AM Comments comments (0)

I propose Wednesday 8th August 2012 as the date for 2012's reunion at The Inn at Greatworth for this years reunion meet. This is the second wednesday in August and will be our 3rd Reunion.

I have made this proposal very early in the year so as to `get in to' everyones diary in good time for their organisation of their years commitments, i.e. holidays and vacations etc.

Should this date prove unsuitable for the majority of interested parties, please reply to the blog with another proposed date.

Again this year, I am circulating this proposal to ALL members of this site, just because some members cannot*  attend, doesn't and will not exclude them from being part of the reunion, it is as though they are there in spirit, if not in actuality. So for those of us who do attend, please, lots of blog entries and pictures. This includes folk who do visit these shores from afar to make the scene.

Tom Hall

* A large part of the sites membership is scattered around the world.

2nd Reunion 10th August 2011!!

Posted by M Hall on July 30, 2011 at 12:35 PM Comments comments (1)

10th August at "The Inn".

What a day! A lovely sunny midweek August in the heart of Northamptonshire. We couldn't have picked a better day if we tried! As I write this, I look outside to see leaden skies over a drizzly morning. Oh well, back to normal eh? We had a total of 19 arrive at The Inn, our hosts Mark and Anne did a great lunch which was served after our walkabout, which this year was limited as the companies that work on the site didn't get much warning of our arrival, but we did get to look round the centre hall and some exotic VW campers, we had a `peer' through Tim Samways doors to see some very classy motors. Back at The Inn, lunch was served and lively conversasion and reminiscing that continued till well into the afternoon.

I have alread put my photos in a gallery, if any one has more to ad that's great, THE MENU is there too, you can download copies at will

It was a real pleasure to meet you all, specialy those I once served with, I think similar sentiments will be felt with all of us and I think `next years bash' is as good as booked? Several indicating a similar date, without reaching for the callender and this time it was the second wednesday in the month, do it the same next year? 2nd Wednesday into August?

June'n'Martin (Tom)

Greatworth's Veterans attending were:-

845 SAC Hall, 945 Cpl Millard, 767 SAC Sumsion, 810 J/T Burrel, 896 J/T Rogers, 202 SAC Cornish, 145 SAC Morris, 304 Cpl/Tch Walker, 199 Sgt Fyfe, 341 SAC Langrish, 641 Cpl Stoddart, 511 Sgt Wilson and 007 J/T Gabriel.

Supported by Marrion Walker, Geordie, Stuart, June and the two remaining ladies, can someone send me their names so I can edit them into here properly?

10th August 2011

This year has really galloped by and it feels as though we haven't done anyting at all in that time. But of course we have, it's just that being busy speeds time up and August is just around the corner. Both of us are really looking forward to meeting everyone at The Inn this year, a high point of the year so far, that is a complete contrast to the begining of our year. I'll ring Mark and confirm the event this evening, anyone with special requirements from The Inn should also ring him, The number is +44 (0) 1295 710976

I'll try to be there earlier than last year, when we were a little late arriving. Just as last year take your cameras and camcorders, those of us unable to attend will not then be left out of the activities.

See you all soon.

RAF Greatworth.com has just achieved it's first year on the internet, the membership (56) it has attracted is staggering and I am really happy to have remade so many old aquaintances from the past, even June (Mrs) has had some involvment and thoroughly enjoyed this years August reunion at RAF Greatworths site and at The Inn in the village, we're hoping for a repeat next year and will commence the 'overtures' for this early next year. Thanks to all of you for making this site such a rewarding venture. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you.

A Great(worth) Reunion

An absolutely brilliant day, attended by fifteen stalwarts of yesteryear making this reunion a resounding success. Thanks go to The Inn's Mark and Anne who rose to the occasion splendidly, providing an excellent luncheon for us all, also Everyone we met at the old TX site who not only made us welcome, but gave us a guided tour of their premises too. I am best pleased to have met such a great bunch of folk, without which, such a lovely day would not have been possible. So thank you all, for making our day so enjoyable.

The Inn Greatworth

Posted by M Hall on August 6, 2010 at 2:32 PM Comments comments (7)

The Inn at Greatworth telephoned me this evening, to ask if there are any special requirements we'd require, by way of food and drink, the'll be open from 11.00 untill 14.30, or later if needed, will we be calling back later and etc. I have intimated that most of us will be likely to take a meal while we chat an make aquaintance, after which we will make our way to the site and take a look around, saying our hello's as we go etc theres the radio ham bit too. Basicly The Inn want to know whats required of them, how many meals, teas and coffees, a lot of us are driving so we won't be drinking a lot, right? So a comment from each of us (again?) to count meals or I could ask for a menu? I'll kick this off with June and me 2 meals a tea and coffee That's two done, next?

It's in One Week's Time! Next Thursday!

Posted by M Hall on August 5, 2010 at 3:32 AM Comments comments (3)

So,  it's a week today when we meet at The Inn at Greatworth, It maybe a good idea for those that will be there to add a comment to this blog, so's we know how many there'll be, The Inn for one would find that helpfull and I'll ask 888 if they'll be recieving us (likely) as well as a couple of other places in the tx hall.

I'm also circulating this through email to all members, those who cannot be there do not need to respond, just those who will be.

For the benifitt of those who are unable to come, please bring a camera if you have one, or if you are artistic, your sketch pads. Those more jounalisticly inclined may wish to write up the event.

It's ON for the 12th August Reunion

Posted by M Hall on April 13, 2010 at 3:33 PM Comments comments (3)

The date for RAF Greatworths reunion is booked at "The Inn" at Greatworth for the 12th August 2010 and businesses on the old site are being aproached about visiting on that day, so far it looks good. BUT there are clouds on the horizon for future reunions! A new high speed rail link's route is rumoured to be planned that takes it through the site of the TX Hall! If this goes ahead the TX Hall will be demolished, although the messes and accomodation may survive. Needless to say, Greatworth village is buzzing with concerns about this development right on their doorstep. The landlord of "The Inn" has drawings of the proposed high speed rail link.

So it would seem that we should take full advantage of this reunion and maybe next years too, while the old place is still in exsistance.

Mike Langrish, my wife and myself spent a few happy hours at "The Inn" and also a walk along Helmdon Lane, past married quarters and the CO's house, onto the base for a walkabout, meeting several of the occupants as we went around, some pictures have been added to the gallery.

All aboard? Greatworth Reunion in August?

There were seven members who showed interest in the "Greatworth Revisited 2010" I've contacted The Inn to see about their facilities. Also I've contacted Greatworth Park's Triple Eight Racing. See the `Greatworth revisited 2010' blogg. If there are other members who find they are interested, it's never too late, but please tell us if you wish to join in, okay? I'm looking for acknowledgement from interested members that intent to join in this "1st Reunion 2010", there, I've done it! It's got a reunion tag! But it is only a proper reunion if it gets enough support! knock knock! This should be a lovely nostalgic day, when the weather gets warmer, June and I will visit Greatworth (we often go near there as we visit Middleton Cheney) and the site to check out the parking and etc.
