rafgreatworth.com `expired' temorarily over the weekend, the `automatic' billing that should have taken place during the last week, for some reason did not occur and as a result the domain expired. It seems that my card's details needed `updating' for the billing to occur and they couldn't be arsed to warn me of this other than by `freezing' the domain. So from late friday 10th Feb till Sunday afternoon 12th Feb rafgreatworth.com wasn't accessible to anyone, ...Read Full Post »

Not a lot happening on here, no updates since the loss of poor Jenks, so I thought I'd add my tuppence worth. These last two years for me, have shown a downturn in my health, frequent visists to my doctor have resulted in an apointment with a specialist and I am now awaiting an apointment for a MRI scan. This is likely to result in surgury, more than this at this time would only be speculative and it's worrying enough already without going down that path. So, having been reminded of my mortal...Read Full Post »

It is with deep sadness that I carry this news of the passing of Jenks, Many of us who served at RAF Greatworth and RAF Jurong will of course remember Keith Jenkins. He died of respiratory failure on August 14th and was cremated on 2nd Sept in Torquay. his mother died earlier this year (Feb?). He was of course a great comfort to her over the years and I'm sure he missed her very much when she passed away.
The folowing was originally printed on August 26, 2015 in the To...Read Full Post »

We must thank June and Tom for throwing together another reunion. On the question of next years venue and selection of a date, my personal view is....the getting together is the most important.....The Red Lion was fine, I think the food was good at a reasonable price.....regarding a date, I suggest keep to the same slot on the calendar, for whatever you choose will be suit some and not others...
The question is, with so many changes to the site and the number of years you have been...Read Full Post »

This year's reunion will be the sixth, again it is proposed to be the second wednesday in August at The Inn, Greatworth. June and I hope to be there this year, we missed last year, so cross fingers we'll be there this year. The Inn has membership of the site, so any queries about food etc can be pointed at them from here or on the phone. Comments as to who's coming or not can be made in the usual way in here. The more to be said the better to stirr up everyones interest in the event.Read Full Post »

Those members who now use a PC running Windows 8.1 at home and are that computers only user. Might be ticked off at having to log into their computer at every startup. Well those of you who are computer literate enough to understand how to follow simple program instructions might find this link usfull, it enables the computer to start up and give you the desktop without the need for user names and passwords. Hello June and Martin,
so sorry you were unable to make the Reunion. A good turnout with plenty of comradeship shining through. The weather was kind and three of us, Mike, Alan and myself, enjoyed our traditional walk from the pub, along the road and then across the styles and sheep field. We nosed our way into the VW garage before drawling over the workshop with all those glorious racing cars. Both places let us wander around and admire their work.
many thanks for making all the ...Read Full Post »

Congratulations, guys, on yet another trip into our youth. Somebody is putting a lot of work into this, building the site (I have never been able to do that) and keeping it going. I remember pub in Helmdon (Sulgrave?), 4d a pint or cider, 6d mild and bitter. The occasional Saturday dance. I had served at BP as an LAC and in 1944 was PROMOTED to corporal to serve at Greatworth. I left in April 445 to go (back to) Cranwell on a radar course.I had been at Cranwell 1 Radio School 1940 to 1942. 6d...Read Full Post »

Hi, I appreciate it's late in the day so to speak, but does anyone have any idea how many members are looking to attend the reunion tomorrow, and what time you are loking to arrive at The Inn.
Look forward to seeing you tomorrow
Thanks and Regards

5th GREATWORTH REUNION . 2nd Wednesday of August 2014, that's the 13th on my calender. I'm for The Inn as venue, I'll PM everyone as soon as I've spoken to The Inn. Pleas keep comments and suggestions on here rather than emails/PM's, they're spotted quicker? and counting is easier too.
We'll obviously be going, so that's two for openers, sounds like Arthur is up for it too, so th...Read Full Post »

A nice surprise is the aquisition of two portraits of the Mrs Eels to be, pictured in uniform at the rank of Flt. Lt., but, what was her name? at this time and serving a commission, she would still be single, unless anyone knows better? She is pictured again, some years later at the RAF Greatworth Christmas bash of '62 picking the draw. Alas, no picture of George here, we'll have to scrutinise the gallery to see if there is a glimpse of him? There is a severe shortage of...Read Full Post »

`RAFA Brackley' (member), Mick, has emailed me to say, that "THE INN" has a fresh landlord and is now open again. Mick goes on to say, that the new landlord is a member of `CAMRA' and that should in itself promise a good beer. We have yet to learn if there is food on offer, we'll no doubt find out in the near future. There is not a great variety of venues in the area and they do need to be close by the camp, as a one day event we don't need to waste time moving between venue...Read Full Post »

Dispite all the messing around finding a different venue, the reunion was still a very enjoyable event. The Red Lion supplied a splendid lunch, served in a great atmosphere, in a fine old English pub. Those of us who were early enough, had a grand beer garden to wait in, the car parking was very adequate and indicated just how popular The Red Lion is, by being near full by midday (Wednesday, Midweek?)!! The visit to The Camp of one time RAF Greatworth is a...Read Full Post »
